PHILADELPHIA -- For much of the last three seasons, the University of Pennsylvania's dynamic defensive duo of Lucy Ferguson and Meg Markham have partnered up to stymie opposing offenses as the Quakers earned three consecutive NCAA Championship appearances. It is only fitting that the two graduated student-athletes share one more honor as they were named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Co-Performers of the Year by the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) this week.

Meg Markham, a three-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection, earned her second IWLCA first-team All-American honor this season. In addition, she garnered her second consecutive Ivy League Defender of the Year award and her third first-team All-Ivy honor. A first-team All-Region selection for the third time, Markham was also an ECAC All-Star for the second season in a row. Markham led all Ivy League players with 46 caused turnovers and her 2.42 CTs-per-game ranked fifth among all Division I players.

Lucy Ferguson picked up her second Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area award, and was a second-team IWLCA All-American this season. The Ivy League's first-team All-Ivy goalkeeper for the third year in a row, Ferguson was an All-Region selection for the third time and earned second-team ECAC All-Star honors. Ferguson led all Ivy goalkeepers with a 7.71 goals-against average – good for 10th among all Division I keepers.
