PHILADELPHIA - The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 25 men’s and women’s nominees for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by UnderArmour, and a pair of University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse players are in the mix – senior goalkeeper Lucy Ferguson and senior defensive standout Meg Markham.

The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. This marks the second straight year that both Ferguson and Markham made the semifinalist list of 25.

Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be selected from these groups of 25, announced on Thursday, May 7, and invited to the ceremony. The 15th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 28 in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.

Ferguson enters the week ranked fifth nationally in save percentage (.508) and seventh in goals-against average (6.73); she leads the Ivy League in both categories. A few weeks ago, she was named the Midseason Goalkeeper of the Year by Lacrosse Magazine.

Last year’s Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, Markham continues to be among the national leaders in caused turnovers per game and recently went over the century mark in that category for her career. She joined Ferguson as a Lacrosse Magazine Midseason All-America.

Penn, which is ranked 14th in this week’s IWLCA national coaches poll, will close out the regular season Sunday against Cornell. It’ll be the final home game for Ferguson, Markham, and eight other seniors. Sunday’s game will start at 1 p.m.
